Dania Beach Design Report
Dania Beach was incorporated in 1906 as "Broward's First City" and has gone through many stages of growth. In 2006, the city was awarded the Design Arts Program (DAP) grant to explore ways in which to celebrate its rich and unique history through the establishment of a "cultural arts district" downtown.
The downtown is comprised of antique and arts related businesses and nearby governmental and county centers. In years past, the antiques district was more vibrant and was recently reintroduced as an "Arts and Antiques District" whose district logo can be seen throughout this report. The district was renamed in order to integrate the burgeoning contemporary arts community of south Florida with the established antique industry. This report proposes the city capitalize on its rich history in the south Florida region through the implementation of a public art program reflecting the history and culture of its founding families. The result will be a series of economic development events and projects benefiting the city and the county at large.
The intent of the various design concepts presented in this report are to provide suggested ways to reflect the key and important characteristics of Broward County's "First City".
