Lauderdale Lakes Blueway Design Report
The City of Lauderdale Lakes is a diverse community that is undergoing tremendous growth and transformation. A local high school boasts that 278 languages are spoken by the students. The residents are active in city affairs through their homeowners associations, City committees and boards. They fully utilize the services of the Parks and Leisure Services Department, including the wide range of cultural activities and special events that showcase the many cultures present in the community.
Over the next ten years, the New Urbanism type development planned in the City Redevelopment Area is expected to add 20,000 residents and many new businesses. Today, Lauderdale Lakes has two active parks with sports fields and community centers. Within this year, two new parks and a swimming facility will be completed, and another park will be under construction. The use of the C-13 will further enhance the recreational, cultural and social opportunities for the residents and visitors to Lauderdale Lakes.
These community dialogues which began this project were another way to engage the public in planning the future of Lauderdale Lakes. The participants were young, old, black, white, Hispanic and had many different interests and experiences. They all spoke highly of the value of the process and the project. They are eagerly awaiting the outcome of this work.
